Avril Lavigne interview

Avril Lavigne tossed out her neckties years ago. Once hailed as the “anti-Britney” with the release of her chart-topping 2002 album, Let Go, the former teen rebel has since stripped down for Maxim, launched numerous product lines, married and divorced. And now it seems the angsty power pop image that many associate with the 26-year-old Canadian has given way to a more mature artist.
Avril’s latest album, Goodbye Lullaby, leaves out the Tony Basil-like chanting found in girl power anthems Girlfriend and The Best Damn Thing, and we barely hear any distorted guitar, a mainstay in her multi-platinum selling earlier work, like the adolescently mispelled Sk8er Boi. Lavigne opts instead for a stripped down, mostly acoustic selection of relationship songs, a move she equates to opening a new chapter in her life.
“Goodbye Lullaby stands for and represents moving forward in life,” she says, sitting on a couch in a suite at Kowloon’s W Hotel, cross-legged and casual. “The body of songs is less pop rock. They’re deeper, more emotional.”
That’s not to say the pop punk princess has completely abandoned her roots. She still sports her signature, pink and green hairstreak, and the new album’s lead single, What the Hell, still oozes the traditional Avril power pop, celebrating sex and play with simple and relatable lyrics.
Perhaps that explains why she has noticed fans sticking with her through her transforming career. “It’s a good thing to keep people around,” she says. “I guess there’s no way to really tell, but a lot of fans that I come in personal contact with, I can tell have been around from the first record.”
On her 2008 tour, Avril hired background dancers for one choreographed, high-pitched screamfest after another. But the singer’s new sound calls for a new show, something a little more stripped down with less focus on theatrics and more on music. “I did a big, crazy pop production last tour,” she says. “This album is more about singing, and more about musical instruments, so I’ll go that way for the tour.”
With or without dancers, Avril’s backlog of chart toppers – the long list of boy-bashing, middle finger-raising hits – is sure to trigger the crowd into frenetic energy. “I think it’s cool because I was, like, really innocent and young and carefree,” she says, “so a lot of my music captured that in me in the music in that time.”
Despite Lavigne’s constantly morphing look and sound, her Hong Kong fanbase has remained loyal, with Goodbye Lullaby debuting at No 1 on the HMV charts. She remains huge within our borders, and, it seems the admiration is mutual.
“All my shows across Asia are amazing. It’s really cool because a lot of people don’t speak English, but they learn the songs, so it’s really nice for me to come here,” she says. “To be on the other side of the world, it’s just an honour for me.”

AVRIL LAVIGNE FAN CAMPAIGNS TO MARRY HER

Letting her green hair shine, Avril Lavigne was back in Beijing, China yesterday (April 27).
Flanked by fans, the Canadian songstress was on hand to promote the Lotto Leggenda brand of footwear.
Meanwhile, an unknown actor has launched an online bid to raise cash to fund a trip to Los Angeles so he can propose to Avril.
Jason Selvig wants to raise $5000 to cover his travel costs and expenses – and strangely enough, people are already pledging to help him succeed via funding platform website Kickstarter.com.
Smitten Selvig states he has been in love with the Canadian pop star, who is currently dating Brody Jenner, but has “never had the opportunity to be in the same room with her”.
The blurb on Kickstarter.com reads, “In order to finally marry Avril (or at least date her long enough to get into one of those real-couple fights), Jason needs to get to Los Angeles where she lives. After doing some math, he figured $5,000 would be enough to fly him out there, put him up, and get him in the same room as her so that he can take her out for a nice night on the town.”
Selvig also hopes to film his experience and turn it into “a pretty awesome documentary short.”
So far, Selvig has raised $30 from three pledges.

Avril Lavigne "Ke$ha Reminds Me Of Me"

Avril Lavigne is a fan of Blow singer Ke$ha, because she can see similarities in their songs.
The What The Hell star was discussing other female artists out there right now, including the Tik Tok hitmaker and Katy Perry.
"Their music's fun. They're cute," the 26-year-old shared.
"Ke$ha has some really funny lyrics that remind me of how light and playful my lyrics are in Girlfriend. It reminds me of me."
Avril also revealed that she never intended to be such a big star when she first started out aged 17. "I just wanted to sing in front of people," she explained.
"I came from nothing, a tiny Canada town with no connections. I'm here because I worked hard.

H 26χρονή τραγουδίστρια του hit single “What The Hell” αν και υπήρξε παντρεμένη με τον Deryck Whibley για τέσσερα χρόνια, αποκάλυψε ότι συνεχίζει να ψάχνει την αγάπη και δεν απέκλεισε τον ενδεχόμενο να παντρευτεί ξανά.

Avril Lavigne: What the hell Lyrics

You say that I'm messing with your head (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
All 'cause I was making out with your friend
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Love hurts, whether it's right or wrong
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I can't stop 'cause I'm having too much fun
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

You're on your knees,
beggin' please
'stay with me'
But honestly,
I just need to be a little crazy

All my life I've been good but now,
I'm thinking 'What the hell'
All I want is to mess around,
and I don't really care about
If you love me, if you hate me,
you can't save me, baby, baby
All my life I've been good but now,
whoa 'What the hell'

What,
What,
What,
What the hell

So what if I go out on a million dates
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
You never call or listen to me anyway
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd rather rage than sit around and wait all day
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Don't get me wrong,
I just need some time to play (yeah)

You're on your knees,
beggin' please
'stay with me'
But honestly,
I just need to be a little crazy

All my life I've been good but now,
I'm thinking 'What the hell'
All I want is to mess around,
and I don't really care about
If you love me, if you hate me,
you can't save me, baby, baby
All my life I've been good but now,
whoa 'What the hell'

La la la la la la la la, whoa, whoa
La la la la la la la la, whoa, whoa

You say that I'm messing with your head
Boy, I like messing in your bed
Yeah, I am messing with your head
When I'm messing with you in bed

All my life I've been good but now,
I'm thinking what the hell (what the hell)
All I want is to mess around and I don't really care about (I don't care about)
All my life I've been good but now, I'm thinking what the hell
All I want is to mess around and I don't really care about. (if you love me)
If you love me (no), if you hate me (no)
You can't save me, baby, baby (if you love me)
All my life I've been good but now, whoa, what the hell

La la, La la la la la la, La la, La la la la la la la

Goodbye Lullaby

Avril Lavigne (RCA/Sony Music)
More than a year ago, Avril Lavigne was boasting that her next album would be her breakthrough into artistic adulthood. There was word of piano ballads, a largely acoustic set of songs, heart-on-sleeve emotion -it would be a Big Statement.

Like most Big Statements, Goodbye Lullaby starts with a perfume jingle. And like the not-quite-a-song Black Star, hawking Lavigne's fragrance of the same name while striving to propel a twinkly motif past the 90-second mark, the album as a whole is conflicted. In interviews, Lavigne has stated that she battled label executives who were pressuring her to put a happy face on more of the songs; she has also said she decided at one point that the album was too pensive and needed some bubblier tracks. Whether Lavigne caved in to corporate suits or to her own second-guessing is almost irrelevant; Goodbye Lullaby can't possibly match her original vision for what she has repeatedly claimed is her most personal disc to date.

Creative compromise would be fine and dandy if Lavigne's heart was still in candy-coloured mall-rockers. Girlfriend was a spiteful hair-yanker that could have soundtracked a bikini Jell-O wrestling match, but at least it was convincingly spiteful. What the Hell, on the other hand, finds Lavigne forcing herself to cut loose, from the stale roller-rink keyboards to the robotic brashness of the chorus. But it's better than Smile, whose uplifting central hook can't compensate for the shrill idiocy of party-hard hollers about being "a crazy bitch" and blacking out in the club. To her credit, Lavigne sounds more embarrassed than obnoxious singing this thing.

Wish You Were Here matches a high-impact R&B melody with a lyric that finds strength in vulnerability, but it isn't until Everybody Hurts offers the listener -and probably the writer -a shoulder to cry on that Lavigne's advance press for Goodbye Lullaby starts to make sense. The album's second half does away with rote fist-pumping and finds Lavigne inching toward Chantal Kreviazuk's tender comforts. Not Enough's anthemic rush confirms she can play to the cheapie arena seats while reaching for sincere introspection, and like some of the surrounding tracks, it sounds like a divorce song addressing Sum 41's Deryck Whibley. If Lavigne is looking inward, she isn't shutting fans out: these songs are both personal and universal.

The album ends with Goodbye, featuring melancholy strings and the closest thing to an angelic vocal Lavigne has laid down. A full hour of this would have been commercial suicide, but the ballad sounds far more meaningful to the singer than her apathetic brattiness elsewhere on the disc. And if Lavigne's fans are growing along with her, it's likely to be more meaningful to them as well.
